SAT Chemistry scores came out today.
We had another perfect score.
Year 2 students at an international school recently took an IB Chemistry test on redox.
Perhaps because they are nearing the end of Year 2, although the test was described as a redox test,
many questions required understanding of the course from beginning to end.
Several students found it very difficult.
One Year 2 student improved greatly after starting lessons with me and was discussing the possibility of a predicted 7.
That student has treated me to sushi, red ginseng, meals, and other things. I think this exam did not go well for them.
I have not felt able to message for a while. Still, we need to get back to studying alongside the school syllabus. I feel sorry.
I had not taught those Year 2 students the opening stoichiometry topics. There had not been a Chemistry tutor here, so I think they had received little outside help.
Many questions came from that material, which seems to have caught a lot of students out.
I expected titration and prepared many stoichiometry questions on the Winkler method and similar examples.
But the actual questions turned out to be more complicated.
The student was asking question after question right up to the exam…
and sent this message afterward. I am sorry.
It must have been extremely difficult.
By contrast, the Year 1 students all sounded positive.
Lately, I have been feeling a little worn down by the fact that students can study the same material yet receive very different scores.
Almost everything on the Year 1 test came from questions I had explained, so most students said it was easy. Even so,
some did not do well. In those cases, contacting their mothers is difficult because I feel sorry.
One student I am particularly fond of is very playful.
Before the exam, I told them to stay and finish questions, but they escaped and sent me a message like this instead.
Then a message came after the test.
Ah… receiving it made me feel so sorry toward their mother.
Lately, inquiries have been coming from many places, and lessons fill every day.
I have realized that although I want a little rest, I cannot get it.
I think I am tired. Even when someone asks about lessons, I no longer actively urge them to join. Haha.
Still, I will do what I can and take a trip somewhere when an opportunity comes.
