Improving after a disappointing result requires patience and commitment, so this message was particularly satisfying.
I do not usually ask about results before students contact me, but this was one of the outcomes that felt easy to predict. The student had done enough work to deserve confidence before the score was released.
This student struggled and even nodded off during the early stages of preparation. At some point, however, the student made a clear decision to study seriously and worked with real intensity.
That change in attitude produced a 5. The effort behind the turnaround mattered just as much as the final number.
Some scores are genuinely difficult to predict. This one was not. The student's preparation made a 5 the natural expectation, and the result confirmed it.
Another student admitted to feeling worried before the results appeared. From my perspective, there was little reason to worry—the student had prepared well and earned the 5.
One student earned 5s across several AP exams at once: Calculus BC, the Calculus AB subscore, Chemistry, and Physics 2.
