AP Chemistry is a demanding course, so it was wonderful to receive a series of score reports from students after the 2023 results were released. At the time of this post, nine students had already contacted me to say they had earned a 5, the highest AP score.
Several students studied AP Chemistry while attending IB schools, and some had completed multiple AP subjects before beginning the IB Diploma Programme. Each result came from the student's own wider academic effort as well as chemistry preparation.

Some of these students began chemistry at a notably young age. Their results were impressive, but the score itself tells only part of the story: they had built foundations early, practised consistently, and asked questions whenever a concept was unclear.

One student had accumulated five AP results across two years and was considering highly competitive medical-school applications. Admissions requirements vary by university, programme, applicant category, and year, so students should always confirm current criteria with official sources.

A parent described how concept-focused lessons helped the student understand Chemistry rather than rely on memorization. That foundation made later practice more efficient and contributed to a score of 5.

A practical AP Chemistry routine is simple: learn from current course materials, complete official-style practice questions, and review every mistake until the underlying idea is clear. Congratulations to all the students who completed the 2023 examination.
