IB Chemistry results began arriving one by one after the 2023 examination session. I do not ask every student for a score, because results are personal and students may need time before discussing them.
Only a few students contacted me immediately, and even some exceptionally strong students saw their total IB scores fall slightly below their predicted results. From those early conversations, the session felt particularly demanding, although this was a personal observation rather than a statistical analysis of the examination.
The first student had completed an extraordinary number of practice questions and earned a 7 in Chemistry. The message also mentioned a total IB score of 41 after receiving a 6 in an unexpected subject.
Another student reported a Chemistry grade 7 with 87 marks. The result reflected consistent preparation and careful work throughout the course.
A third student had worried that a 7 might be out of reach, so the final result brought enormous relief. These messages capture the mixture of uncertainty and excitement that accompanies results day.
One more student shared a strong grade 7 result. Every student had approached preparation differently, but sustained concept review, repeated question practice, and careful correction were common themes.
Congratulations to all students who completed the 2023 IB examinations. A final grade is important, but it is only one part of a much longer academic journey.
