2024 AP Chemistry Exam Review: MCQ, FRQ, and Exam Security Concerns

The 2024 AP Chemistry examination is finally over. It was a demanding season for students, and reports of unauthorised material being shared across time zones created additional concern about fairness and exam security.

Specific channels, prices, and access details are intentionally omitted here. Distributing restricted examination material undermines every student who prepares honestly and should never be encouraged.

Even in a difficult environment, strong preparation still matters. The student reactions below focus on the legitimate academic question: how the multiple-choice and free-response sections felt on the day.

One student described the paper as manageable and expected a 5. This was an unusually strong student taking both IB examinations and a very large number of AP subjects, so the response should not be treated as representative of every candidate.

Another student was preparing for A Level examinations at the same time and had limited room for additional AP study. Even so, the multiple-choice section felt fairly approachable, while FRQ 3 was repeatedly identified as one of the hardest parts of the paper.

Across the regular testing group, the dominant response was consistent: the MCQ felt easier, but the FRQ was more demanding. Overall, the paper appeared harder than the previous year's examination, which could lead to a lower score boundary.

The late-testing group reported almost the reverse pattern. Several students found the MCQ difficult while describing the FRQ as comparatively manageable.

The reactions varied by paper and by student, but every candidate deserves credit for completing a difficult course and examination season. Well done to everyone who prepared honestly and saw the process through to the end.
